Mitchell Funds Awarded to the Cohen-Bray House!
In June 2005 The National Trust for Historic
Preservation approved our application for a grant from their Cynthia
Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors. The Fund, established by
George P. Mitchell to honor his wife, is used to assist in the
preservation, restoration, and interpretation of historic interiors
across the country. Our award of $5000, requiring a like amount in
matching local funds, will support the cost of hiring preservation
consultants to perform a condition assessment of the historic
wallpapers, plaster, woodwork, and carpets throughout the Cohen-Bray
House. It represents the first step in our long-term plan for
meticulous conservation and care of the irreplaceable interiors familiar
to all of you who have visited.
We are delighted to receive these funds and the
recognition of The National Trust for Historic Preservation. National
Trust President, Richard Moe, commented: Congratulations on your
fine work and your success in being one of 13 projects that we were able
to assist in this round of the Mitchell Fund. The committee members
were very pleased with the diversity and significance of the projects
chosen for funding. With the grant comes our warmest wish for success
in your efforts.
We are also happy to announce that the required
matching funds and then some, thanks to the diligence and generosity
of our members and friends, have already been collected! You have
done us proud with your response to our fundraising efforts begun in
January 2005. Our grateful thanks to everyone who contributed. Let us
continue working so well together for the preservation and maintenance
of this wonderful place!
